Normally, the holidays are not the time we encourage readers to seek new employment, but this year - as with pretty much everything else - things in the job market are different. The good news is that fashion jobs have been on the rise in the last few weeks, providing hope when we need it the most.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The job search process can be frustrating and there are moments where it feels easy to just give up. I know it’s difficult to receive rejection email after rejection email, most not even explaining the reason for the rejection...BUT your perfect role is out there. I promise you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To help in your search, whether you are just starting or have been at it for a few months, we’ve created a list of resources to guide you along the way.

✨ Additionally, many of these resources have job alerts you can create to send you notifications when a role that fits your qualifications has been posted. This could prove to be invaluable as you could be among the first to apply when the role has been posted.

Don’t be discouraged if you don’t hear back right away. As companies start opening their doors to new employees and roles are created, the job market will get better and you will see better results.

In the meantime, continue to learn - read about industry news, get online certifications (there are so many free ones being offered all the time!) and better yourself as a professional 💪🏼

This year, perhaps more so than any other, it's important to reflect on the things we have and be thankful.

This is much easier said than done, especially depending on has happened to you (or your loved ones) during one of the hardest years in our lives.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The pandemic that has threatened the lives of literally every person on the planet, has brought with it nothing but pain, anger, sadness and fear. There are days where hope seems like an echo of yesterday.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But the important thing to remember is that even in our sadness, we are together. Even in our fear, we push on as a people. We hold our families even closer in our hearts and cherish the moments that perhaps were taken for granted just a few short months ago.

We must be each other's shoulders as so many around us need one to cry on. We must be each other's light when it seems there is only darkness everywhere. We much be each other's strength when so many need to be carried.

So today, on the eve of a holiday where people usually sit together with families big and small and ask "What are you thankful for?", I hope you can look around you and find something, no matter how small, to smile about and be thankful for.

In today’s career spotlight series, we break down the traits needed to do a job not many people know exists, but is extremely important to the fashion industry: fit modeling.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
WHAT IS A FIT MODEL?
A fit model is a person who is hired by a fashion designer or clothing manufacturer to check the fit, drape and visual appearance of a design on a human.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Most brands will use a size 4-6 to fine-tune the dimensions and feel of each piece before and after it goes into production, then scale that garment's dimensions to produce other sizing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It is not an easy job, but if you keep at it, most fit models garner anywhere between $250 and $400 per hour.

TRAITS NEEDED TO BE A FIT MODEL
1. Be physically and mentally strong
With fit modeling, you have to be aware of your body - how it moves, how you walk, and how you fit into the garment. When you’re in a fitting, you’re not only explaining the fit of an item, but you’ve got to do a runway walk and pose without feeling self conscious or intimidated. You may also have to stand still for extended periods of time while the designer's pin, cut and pull the clothes into perfection.

2. Be Knowledgeable About Fit
Fit models are there to put themselves in the customers’ shoes and provide the designers with valuable feedback about the fit, feel, and movement of the garment. Small details can make or break a garment, so you must be an excellent communicator who is comfortable expressing your opinions to the client.

3. Have a Flexible Schedule
Fit modeling isn’t a nine to five job. Shifts vary from week to week depending on the season and the number of samples that are ready to fit.
4. Be Signed By an Agency
It’s very difficult to be successful in the fit world if you don’t have an agency, especially if it is something you want to do as a career and not just as an odd job.

It's easy to succumb to ideas of things you should do or be based on what society, your environment or even your family and friends think would be best. Other times, it's your own mind that could tell you to follow the logical path as this will be the easier way to go.

The truth is, just because something is easy does not mean it is worth it. Also, just because the people or things surrounding you tell you to do something or to take a path they think is for you, it doesn't mean it's the right choice.

Only YOU can know in your heart what path you want to take. Only YOU can decide what you want to work towards and achieve in your life.

They beauty of it all is that often times, when you follow this harder path - this 'road less traveled', you will find that all the hard work you put into making it a reality, pays off not just in achieving your dreams, but in bringing so much happiness into your soul.

So, choose wisely and remember that your life path has to feel right to only you.
